Who Can Apply?
There are two routes.
Route 1: Coal or thermal sector officers. You should have a BE or B.Tech in Electrical, Mechanical or Mining. Then your experience should fit together like this:

Route 2: Group A service officers. Officers from services such as IRTS or IRMS do not need the above degree. They need five years at a senior level in the last ten years, in coal, logistics, ports or supply chain areas. They would join on deputation.
Educational Qualification
The main degree is in engineering. A related PG, a two-year MBA or a Ph.D. is desirable.
Age Limit and Application Fee
Your age should not be above 65 on 2 November 2026. We did not find a fee in the sections we reviewed.
Salary Details
Pay at this level has a few parts. The main amount is Rs. 3,75,955 a month, and this includes DA, HRA and CCA. Your pension is subtracted, if you have one. Then you may also get allowances for security, telephone operator, professional development, special and camp office duties. These add up to Rs. 1,16,196 a month. That total is our own calculation.
What Does APGENCO Do?
APGENCO generates electricity. Its total capacity is 8,789 MW, and most of it, 6,610 MW, comes from thermal plants. Thermal plants burn coal. So this Director’s area matters a lot, as coal must reach these plants on time. The notification says that the Board or Managing Director will decide the exact duties.
Selection Process and Exam Pattern
There is no written test. A committee shortlists people based on their experience, and then calls them for a personal interview.

How Long Is the Job?
The first term is two years. It can be extended by one year at a time, up to two times. This depends on a yearly report, and only an outstanding record should lead to re-appointment.
