Are you aiming for the Gujarat Food Safety Officer post? This exam has a rule you must know from day one: you must pass both parts separately. A brilliant score in technical subjects cannot rescue a weak score in the general part.
Here is how to plan for it. See more on our Syllabus page.

Quick Details
| Point | Information |
|---|---|
| Conducted By | GSSSB |
| Job | Food Safety Officer, Class-3 |
| Vacancies | 90 |
| Questions | 210 |
| Time | 3 hours |
| Wrong Answer Penalty | One-fourth of the marks |
How the Marks Are Divided
| Part | Covers | Marks | You Need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part A | General subjects | 90 | 36 |
| Part B | Technical subjects | 120 | 48 |
So 84 marks in total is not the real target. A student with 60 in Part B and 30 in Part A does not clear the rule, even with a total of 90.
Part A: What to Study
| Subject | Marks | Topics |
|---|---|---|
| Reasoning | 30 | Analogy, series, coding, blood relations, Venn diagrams, clocks, charts and graphs |
| Maths | 30 | Number system, percentages, ratio, interest, time and work, algebra, geometry, trigonometry |
| Constitution | 10 | Preamble, rights and duties, government structure, judiciary, elections |
| Current Affairs | 10 | Gujarat and national news, schemes, food safety news |
| Language | 10 | Gujarati passage (5), English passage (5) |
Part B: What to Study
| Unit | Marks |
|---|---|
| Food Laws, Regulations, Certification and Schemes | 30 |
| Basic Food Science | 20 |
| Food Microbiology and Biotechnology | 15 |
| Food Safety, Quality Control, Hygiene and Standards | 15 |
| Food and Nutrition | 5 |
| Food Preservation, Packaging and Storage | 5 |
| Agricultural Science | 5 |
| Animal Product Processing | 5 |
These add up to 100. The other 20 marks come from the remaining units, including Dairy, so please see the official PDF.
Where Should You Start?
This is our suggestion, and it is not official. Look at the table above. Food Laws alone is worth 30 marks, which is a quarter of Part B. If you have never studied food laws in college, begin there.
Next, take Basic Food Science, since it probably overlaps with what you already know. It can give you confidence early.
Do Not Ignore Part A
Technical students often skip reasoning and maths. Please do not make this mistake. You need 36 out of 90, and reasoning and maths together carry 60 of those marks.
Half an hour a day on these two subjects can make a big difference over a few months.
Handling Negative Marking
With a one-fourth penalty, four wrong guesses cancel out one right answer. So if you truly have no idea, it is better to leave the question.
