WII Bustard Project Jobs 2026: Vets Can Help Save One of India’s Rarest Birds

A vet who would rather work with wildlife than in a city clinic? The Wildlife Institute of India needs two people for Project Great Indian Bustard. You would treat birds, help manage them, and take on field work too.

The application window is short, from 4 to 18 November 2026. Our Latest Jobs page has more such roles.

Quick Details

Role Pay Openings
Scientific Consultant Rs. 70,000 1
Non-Scientific Consultant Rs. 40,000 1

Important Dates

Your online form can go in from 4 November until 18 November 2026. The project itself is planned till March 2029, with yearly renewal based on your review.

Vacancy and Category-wise Details

There are two openings, one per role, with no category split shown. Age must be 35 or below.

Which Role Fits You?

You could go for the Rs. 70,000 role if you have:

  • An MVSc with more than three years of R&D or scientific work, or
  • A BVSc with more than five years of it.

The Rs. 40,000 role asks for:

  • A BVSc with more than one year of experience.

Fresh out of college? Your one-year internship certificate counts as a year of work. But the second role asks for “more than” one year, so you may need some extra months. It is worth checking before you pay the fee.

What Would You Actually Do?

The advert mentions three things: bustard husbandry and management, field work including trapping birds and animals, and treating clinical cases at breeding centres in Rajasthan. Experience in bird husbandry, avian surgery, dog sterilization and wildlife handling is desirable. So if you have done any bird or wildlife work, make it clear in your form.

The Great Indian Bustard is among India’s most endangered birds. For a vet who cares about conservation, this could be meaningful work, though remote postings are not for everyone. That is our take.

Selection and Exam Pattern

No written exam is listed. WII shortlists people for an online interview, looking at your age, degree marks, specialisation, research experience and any publications. So do mention your papers and conference talks.

Fee

General category candidates pay Rs. 500. SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PC candidates pay Rs. 100. You do not get this back if you are rejected.
