Planning a DM, MCh or DrNB seat? The window for NEET SS 2026 closes on 18 November, and the exam follows on 11 and 12 December. That leaves roughly a month between applying and sitting the paper, so it is worth thinking about your groups and time plan now.
Three locked sections and a group-wise fee are the two details people most often miss. More updates are on our Admission page.

Selection Process and Exam Pattern
Your paper has 150 questions in 150 minutes. That sounds like plenty of time, until you see how it is arranged. There are three sections, of 50 questions and 50 minutes each.
Here is the part that matters:
- You cannot move ahead early, as the next section only opens when time runs out.
- You cannot go back, as a closed section stays closed.
- So spare minutes in Section A will not help you in Section B.
Marking is +4 for a right answer, -1 for a wrong one, and 0 for a blank. So guessing has a cost, and you need your own rule on when to attempt.
A Simple Time Plan
This is only our suggestion, not an NBEMS instruction. Aim to finish each section’s first round in about 35 minutes. Use the next 10 for marked questions, and the last 5 for a calm final check. Since you cannot return, never leave a section thinking “I will do this later”.
Which Group Is Yours?
The exam is group-based, with 15 different papers. Your MD, MS or DNB specialty usually decides your group, and questions come from that specialty’s exit-level curriculum.
Two groups work differently. The Medical Oncology and Critical Care Medicine papers are made only from those super specialty topics. So your preparation there will look quite different.
Some super specialties accept more than one feeder too. For example, Endocrinology falls in the Medical group, so Paediatrics candidates aiming for it must write the Medical paper.
Fee and Multiple Groups
Each group costs Rs. 3,500, plus payment gateway charges. You can pick more than one, but think about the money and the extra preparation first. Fees are generally not refunded, so please check your feeder eligibility in the bulletin before paying.
Seats, Vacancy and Category-wise Details
This is an entrance exam, so it has seats rather than job vacancies. We did not find seat numbers by category in the dates and exam sections of the bulletin. Watch for details at the counselling stage.
Am I Eligible If My Result Is Pending?
The bulletin sets 31 January 2027 as the cut-off date for your MD, MS or DNB qualification. So those finishing soon should read this section closely.
How to Apply
Fill in the form on the NBEMS site, pay online and upload your images. During 20 to 23 November, you can fix most details, but not your name, nationality, email, Aadhaar, mobile number or test city. So choose your test city carefully the first time.
Image issues get one more chance, from 28 November to 2 December. After that, there are no more chances.
