University of Madras November Exams 2026: How to Read Your Timetable

Writing your University of Madras exams this November? The timetables are out, and the first papers are on 12 November. They can look confusing at first, as the same subject can appear with different codes.

Let us walk through how to read yours, so that you do not study for the wrong paper. More schedules are on our Time Table page.

Quick Details

What Details
Exam Month November 2026
Earliest Date Seen 12 November 2026
FN Means 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
AN Means 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM

Mistake 1: Ignoring Your Admission Year

This one is common. Look at first semester English in the B.A. file:

  • Admitted from 2022-23: Communicative English – I, code LZ11A
  • Admitted from 2023-24: English – I, code 100L1Z

Same semester, same date, but a different paper. So find the line with your batch.

Mistake 2: Mixing Up FN and AN

Two papers may appear on one date, such as 21 November in the B.A. file: one in the morning, and another in the afternoon. If you have arrears from another semester, you could have both on the same day. Please check for this early.

Mistake 3: Assuming All Papers Are the Same

Most papers carry 75 marks, but some foundation papers have a maximum of 50 marks. So plan your time according to your own paper. Also, English papers for B.A. English students may be listed separately, as in the third-semester paper Literary Appreciation.

Mistake 4: Following a Friend’s Dates

Your friend in another batch or course may have different papers. Only your subject code matters. Match each one to your hall ticket when it comes.

Make Your Own One-Page List

A simple way to stay organised is to write these in a notebook, in date order:

  1. Date and session
  2. Subject name
  3. Subject code

Stick that page on your wall. You will not need to open a 29-page PDF again. This tip is ours, not the university’s.

Giving Yourself Enough Time

The B.A. file runs till 12 December, and the B.Com file till 5 December, based on the dates we saw. So exams may be spread over some weeks. Check your own first and last dates, and spread your subjects across that time.
